Welcome 🌍
Hey — I’m Matthew. I’m currently working remotely from the West Indies, chasing a life that blends freedom, focus, and adventure. AFK Guy is my personal HQ for documenting the journey: remote work setups, real costs of living abroad, tools I actually use, and everything in between.
If you are looking for me i’m likely in deep powder or chasing the wind somewhere.
I built this site because I wanted a home for everything I’m learning while living “away from keyboard.”
About the Site 🧭
AFK Guy is more than a blog — it’s a living notebook for anyone building a remote lifestyle with intention.
You’ll find:
- 💻 Remote work tips and setups that actually work
- ✈️ Travel guides based on real places I’ve lived
- 📈 Productivity systems I use (and where they break)
- 🏕️ Adventures and physical pursuits that keep me moving
It’s raw, real, and always grounded in firsthand experience.
About Me 🧠
I’m a software developer, founder, and relentlessly curious human who traded office life for the open world. I’ve been working remotely full-time for years — across countries, time zones, and a handful of bad hotel Wi-Fi signals.
I build digital products, fall down mountains, chase the wind, and spend too much time tuning my gear and writing about it.
I’m not trying to be a guru. Just someone who’s doing the work — and sharing what sticks.
Hobbies & Interests 🏄♂️
- Kiteboarding, Snowboarding, Scuba Diving, and anything that makes me sweat outdoors
- Technology and software development
- Writing and building systems that support creative focus
- Deep-diving productivity tools (and abandoning 90% of them later)
- Economic history, philosophy, and indie tech
- Living simply and intentionally — even when it’s messy
Values & Philosophy 🔧
- Freedom is worth optimizing for — in time, place, and thought
- Ownership > employment — but it takes time to build
- Make things that matter — even small ones
- Document, don’t perform — stay grounded in what’s real
- Adventure doesn’t need to be epic — it just needs to be regular
Whether you’re here to build your own path, get unstuck, or just see what life looks like when you hit “AFK” — I’m glad you found your way here.
Let’s go build something free.
